We recently collaborated with YHA to create a stunning new display for their Youth Hostel in Castleton. The display offers visitors a variety of routes to help them #GetOutside and explore the stunning countryside that surrounds the hostel.
At the centre of the display is a large 3D contour map of the area which contains some topographic detail and local points of interest. There are six routes shown on the map using coloured pins and string which makes for a really striking, tactile display.
All the routes have been designed to start and end at the hostel and visitors can choose the route that suites their mode of transport and their ability – there are easy and challenging options for walking, running and cycling. We also created handy little route guides which have an OS Explorer map on one side and easy-to-follow instructions on the reverse.
We worked with Hannah Marsland, Network Marketing Manager at YHA. She said, “This fabulous new display was long in the planning and more than a devil in the detail but we now have six wonderful routes for customers to enjoy from the front door.
“The display came about following funding from Peak District National Park, bespoke maps created from Ordnance Survey, outdoor gear donated by Cotswold Outdoor and more than a few of the route GPX files generated on the spare time leg work of the ever helpful YHA Castleton team.
“A great testament to what can be achieved in partnership, and a resulting display that we hope will bring confidence to guests less experienced in active pursuits and create a few new enthusiasts to our great outdoors.”
We have already started work on a similar display at YHA New Forest.
