With Black Friday coming up and a busy Christmas period around the corner, we wonder if we can clock up a few more countries? The top five countries buying from the OS shop so far are:

  • America
  • Germany
  • Australia
  • France
  • Holland

Taking a look at what these worldwide GetOutside lovers are buying, the majority opt for our renowned paper maps, with some choosing a subscription for OS Maps, our digital mapping service.

Thinking about the increase in inbound tourism to Britain and visitors interested in walking holidays, Jonathan Elder, our Sales Tech Executive said: “We’ve noticed that when we sell maps to people abroad they’re buying two or three maps at a time, indicating they are planning longer routes. It demonstrates that across the world there are many fans of the British countryside and OS maps, and we enjoy helping them to GetOutside.”

Looking at sales in Great Britain, we found that aside from London, it is mainly the Midlands and North of the nation making the most of the shop.

The top ten towns and cities, excluding London, purchasing from our online shop:

  • Bristol
  • Birmingham
  • Leeds
  • Manchester
  • Sheffield
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow
  • Cambridge
  • Oxford
  • Nottingham

We were really surprised by this. We’re not sure if it means people in the North are more adventurous or not, but they’re making certain they’re the most prepared for when they GetOutside!
