England World Cup squad surnames as street names

As England’s football team aim to avoid dead ends and cul-de-sacs at the Russia World Cup – we’ve revealed the most popular street names shared by the players.

Residents across Great Britain live in 2,280 streets which share the same name as players’ surnames from England’s World Cup squad – with Danny Rose’s surname topping the table.

Whether it be Walker Lane in Rotherham, Kane Close in Coalville, or Southgate Avenue in Crawley, fans up and down the nation have added pride when cheering on the team (except maybe the good people of Welbeck Street in Kilmarnock!).  Read More

150-year-old Stonehenge photos unearthed on the Summer Solstice

They are some of the oldest photographs ever taken of the ancient Stonehenge landmark and the book in which they are bound dates back to 1867. It’s a chronicle which until now has been lost in the archives of the national mapping agency Ordnance Survey.

Geovation venture: Refill water bottle campaign running nationwide

We were hugely proud of our Geovation alumni Refill last week. Refill encourages businesses to allow thirsty passers-by to fill up their water bottles for free and their scheme is being rolled-out across England. And the good news created a splash of national headlines!

We’ve all heard about the issue of single-use plastic bottles and Refill, backed by industry body Water UK expect to cut usage by tens of millions bottles a year. All 15 water companies in England support the expansion of the scheme, which originated in Bristol.

You can use Refill’s app to find water stations and public fountains, or through window signs pointing people in the direction of the nearest one. Whitbread (owner of Costa Coffee and Premier Inn), has already signed up and will allow you to refill your bottles with drinking water in all branches from March 2018.

Refill began collaborating with our Geovation team after winning the Geovation Camp Water Challenge in March 2016. Since then both sides have worked together to develop and launch the app. Read More
