The OS Network Planning Suite

Our Network Planning Suite is made up of three layers of Ordnance Survey data: the terrain layer, the clutter layer and the building vector layer:

The Terrain Layer

1. The Terrain Layer
OS Terrain 5 layer offers an accuracy level greater than 2m root-mean-square error (RMSE). You’ll receive this data as a grid of heighted points at five-metre intervals. There’s no other height product available in Britain with this level of accuracy, consistency and detail.

The Clutter Layer

2. The Clutter Layer
The clutter layer grid map shows the predominant features within each 5x5m grid cell. These features are broken down into 24 categories including open spaces, urban, suburban, dense urban, roads, water bodies and woodlands. The grid size can also be scaled up or down to suit your needs and each grid has a unique ID and class type for you to easily reference.

The Building Vector Layer

3. The Building Vector Layer
 Use the ‘heighted building footprints’ feature to improve your calculations reliant on line-of-sight analysis, particularly in built-up areas. The Building Vector Layer uses OS Open Map which is published every six months. These updates help network planners monitor changes both horizontally and vertically, particularly in areas of high change such as urban developments.
