New map symbols

Last year we teamed up with the BBC One Show, running a competition to create new symbols for our maps.

It was a real success generating a huge amount of interest and entrants, as well as providing some great publicity on the value of OS maps! Spot the winner in our search for a new kite surfing symbol with some of the other new symbols.

We decided not to stop there, and started thinking about how we could show other water activities.

So far we have come up with a range of great new symbols, which will be included in our OS Explorer Maps from early in the new year. But if you have any feedback from your customers on what they would like to see on a map, then we’d love to hear it.

The first maps to include the symbols will be OL40 (The Broads), and OL12 (Brecon Beacons National Park, Western Area).
