What is the coverage of the AddressBase Islands products?

Both AddressBase Islands products cover Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

What are the differences between the two AddressBase Islands products?

There are two AddressBase Islands products; AddressBase Plus Islands and AddressBase Premium Islands.

AddressBase Plus Islands contains current properties including addresses sourced from Local Authorities, Ordnance Survey and Royal Mail, all provided with an UPRN (Unique Property Reference Number), for Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.The product enables the end-user to locate an address or property on a map using either X, Y coordinates supplied on a British National Grid or Latitude and Longitude coordinates provided on an ETRS89 projection.

AddressBase Premium Islands provides the most detailed view of an address and its lifecycle for Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. It has more records than AddressBase Plus Islands as it provides all the information relating to an address or property from creation to retirement. The product contains Local Authority, Ordnance Survey and Royal Mail addresses. This includes provisional addresses (proposed planning developments), and historic information (demolished properties) where available.

Ordnance Survey addresses are added to the AddressBase Premium Islands product where necessary to ensure the schema meets the core AddressBase products.

How often will the AddressBase Islands products be updated?

Both AddressBase Plus Islands and AddressBase Premium Islands will be released every six weeks (known as an Epoch).

The specific dates on which the data used in a given Epoch was cut will be made avaliable in our release notes.

Will the Islands products contain Royal Mail's Postcode Address File (PAF)?

Data from Royal Mail's PAF product is a vital component of both Islands products. Royal Mail information will therefore be present where a match can be made between the Local Authority address and an address from Royal Mail.

Will commercial customers have to pay Royal Mail royalties separately?

Royal Mail royalties apply but are incorporated into the licence fee if you are already a Great Britain customer of a core AddressBase product:

- AddressBase,

- AddressBase Plus, or

- AddressBase Premium

If you are not an existing Great Britain customer, additional Royal Mail royalties will apply.

Who is supplying the AddressBase Islands products?

Ordnance Survey is the distributor of the AddressBase Islands products; all customer relationships and product supplies will be managed and fulfilled by Ordnance Survey.

Are the AddressBase Islands products within Public Sector Mapping Agreement?

AddressBase Islands products are not within the Public Sector Mapping Agreement (PSMA), therefore if you are a PSMA member and want to purchase AddressBase Islands you will need to enter into a commercial agreement with Ordnance Survey or one of our Partners.

Not all of British National Grid Coordinates are populated, is this correct?

Yes - Due to the coverage of the AddressBase Islands products, not all records will have an Easting and Northing declared on the British National Grid. The mandatory coordinate system of the AddressBase Islands products is ETRS89 which is provided in the Latitude and Longitude columns.
