This page can be used as a guide to the Ordnance Survey copyright acknowledgements (attribution statements) to be used by members of the public sector agreements (PSMA and OSMA) and how they can be applied in different circumstances, but they are not exhaustive.
Members should note that:
- it is still their responsibility to ensure that they are applying the terms of their Member Licence correctly.
- if a mix of data is used, then the highest appropriate level of acknowledgement needs to be used. For example, if you are overlaying a derived dataset that has been granted an exemption on terms equivalent to OS OpenData on to OS VectorMap Local, then the acknowledgement to use is the ‘Licensed data’ one.
- if other third party information is included (such as with Royal Mail’s PAF content) that acknowledgement must also be included
As Ordnance Survey do not claim intellectual property rights (IPR) in your data that has been created independently of Ordnance Survey data (independently sourced data), no Ordnance Survey acknowledgement is required.
This also includes data derived from OS OpenData products and those derived datasets that have been granted a derived data exemption on equivalent terms.
Acknowledge the copyright and the source of the data by including the following attribution statement: ‘Contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right [year]’.
Note: You must include the same acknowledgement requirement in any sub-licences of the data that you grant, and a requirement that any further sub-licences do the same.
Free to use data
If the derived data can be deemed as being ‘Free to Use data, i.e. Data that you create that must be capable of being used independently of the Ordnance Survey dataset from which it was inferred.
The copyright and source of the Free to Use Data must be acknowledged by including the following attribution statement: 'Contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database rights [year of issue]'.
Note: You must include the same acknowledgement requirement in any sub-licences of the Free to Use Data that are granted, together with a requirement that any further sub-licences do the same.
These are base mapping acknowledgements required on paper mapping containing Licenced Data that need to be set out in a legible font and in a conspicuous position

In addition, the phrase ‘terms and conditions’ needs to provide a clear hyperlink to a copy of these conditions:
