OS OpenSpace Data Protection and Privacy Notice

Ordnance Survey is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Data Protection and Privacy Notice sets out the basis on which we will process any personal data that we collect from you, (or that you provide to us), in connection with OS OpenSpace.

1 For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1988, the Data Controller is the Secretary of State acting through Ordnance Survey.

2 We may collect and process personal data that you provide to us at the time of registering for your API Key and/or during the continuance of your OS OpenSpace Developer Agreement, or at the time of posting any Submissions, utilising any other interactive services on the Website, or requesting further services in connection with OS OpenSpace.

3 We may also monitor and record your communications with us, and keep a record of the same, including (but without limitation) for quality control and training purposes.

4 Your personal data are held by the Secretary of State acting through Ordnance Survey and are kept confidential on our secure database. We will use your personal data:

  1. to provide you with our services and meet our obligations under your OS OpenSpace Developer or other agreement;
  2. for administration;
  3. to respond to email enquiries and complaints;
  4. to provide access to discussions forums and blogs;
  5. to monitor data traffic and any patterns of use;
  6. to ensure the content of the Website is fit for the purpose for which it was set up; and
  7. to ensure you and any users of any applications created by you which access and use our data are compliant with our terms and conditions governing the use of such data.

5 We take appropriate measures to ensure that your personal data is kept secure and is kept for only so long as is necessary for the purpose for which it is used. We only hold such personal data about you as you have provided to us and we update this personal data within ten (10) working days of any new or updated personal data being provided to us by you, to ensure that the personal data we hold about you is as accurate and up to date as possible.

6 In the event that you register your details with us, we may store your personal data for so long as your registration remains current and active with us. If you/we delete your registration, we will keep your personal data on our records for a period of one (1) year to enable us to respond to any enquiries or complaints that you may have.

7 If you provide us with personal data belonging to any third party, you warrant and confirm that such third party consents to the transmission and processing of their personal data by us and that you have informed them of our identity and the purposes (as set out above) for which their personal data will be processed.

8 We may link to other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy policies of such websites, nor for the way in which information about their users is treated. In particular, unless expressly stated, we are not agents for these websites, nor are we authorised to make representations on their behalf.

9 You are entitled to ask for a copy of any personal data that we hold about you (for which we may charge a small fee) and to have any inaccuracies in your personal data corrected.

10 Cookies

We may store information about you in a cookie (a small file that is sent by our web server to your computer), which we can access when you make return visits to the Website. Sending cookies is usual practice for any website that needs to remember what its users' preferences are and we use cookies to keep track of your choices in the Website and improve the quality of our service.

11 Please note that when you visit the Website, we may also log your IP address, a unique identifier for your computer or other access device. We will keep these records for up to one (1) year.
