Printed Products – Partner contracts

This Overview highlights some of the key points from the contract; please refer to the Contract for full terms and conditions. Please contact our Customer Service Centre for further information.

This contract covers the use of Licensed Data in the creation of products printed onto any physical medium or made available in an electronic raster format and not georeferenced. The contract also covers the use of Licensed Data to create images for use on merchandising products, where the primary purpose of that product is not for use as a map.

The contract makes a distinction between products that contain facsimile Ordnance Survey data and products that contain Ordnance Survey redrawn data.

Conditions of Use

  • Where facsimile mapping is included in a printed product, the name of the licensed data used to create it must be included.
  • Where a printed product contains facsimile 1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster and/or 1:50 000 Scale Colour Raster mapping, the relevant legends identified in the Style Guide may also be used in the product.
  • Where a printed product is made available in an electronic format, it is for the purpose of allowing a paper print to be made.
  • A 65% discount on Royalties, (subject to the product meeting certain terms and conditions), may be applied to some products where facsimile mapping forms no more than 20% of the total text and picture content of the product.
  • A 95% discount on Royalties (subject to the product meeting certain terms and conditions), may be applied to some products where facsimile mapping forms no more than 5% of the total text and picture content of the product.
  • Electronic copies of printed products must be in a raster format, must not be geo referenced and must not permit the end-user to edit, manipulate or extract the licensed data.
  • You may only use OS Logos' within a printed product (including those supplied in an electronic format) as identified in our Style Guide.
  • The same run on (as defined in the contract) royalty applies to all run on copies, irrespective of the number produced.
  • A merchandising product may only be licensed under this contract if each image that has been created using Licensed Data has been approved by us for use on that particular merchandising product.

Pricing structure

The royalty structure is based on the licensed data used to create a printed product.

Royalties are determined as follows:

OS MasterMap Topography Layer: Redrawn mapping

  • Royalties are based on the area of geography (in square kilometres) used to create an initial print unit.
  • A premium royalty applies to the first square km used in the creation of each initial print unit.
  • A print unit must depict a single area of continuous geography.
  • The area of geography in each print unit must be rounded up to a whole number of square kilometres.

OS MasterMap Topography Layer: facsimile mapping

  • Royalties are based on the area of geography (in hectares) used to create an initial print unit.
  • A premium royalty applies to the first hectare used in the creation of each initial print unit.
  • Different royalties apply to settlement, rural and moorland geography.
  • Where an initial print unit includes mixed geography, the royalty for settlement geography should be applied first, followed by rural geography and finally moorland geography.
  • A print unit can have a maximum area of 5 square kilometres. There is, however, no restriction on the number of units that can make up a printed product.
  • A print unit must depict a single area of continuous geography.
  • The area of geography used in each print unit must be rounded to the nearest 0.1 of a hectare.
  • Run on royalties apply to each identical copy of an initial print unit.

OS VectorMap Local, OS Vector Map Local Black and White Raster, OS VectorMap Local Colour Raster and OS VectorMap Local Colour Raster - Backdrop

  • Royalties are based on the area of geography (in square kilometres) used to create an initial print unit.
  • A premium royalty applies to the first square kilometre used in the creation of each initial print unit.
  • A print unit based on facsimile mapping can have a maximum area of 25 square kilometres. There is, however, no restriction in the number of units that can make up a printed product.
  • A print unit must depict a single area of continuous geography.
  • The area of geography in each print unit must be rounded up to a whole number of square kilometres.
  • Run-on royalties apply to each identical copy of an initial print unit.

1:25 000 Scale Colour Raster, 1:50 000 Scale Colour Raster and OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Layer – Road Network and Road Routing Information

  • Royalties are based on the area of geography (in square kilometres) included in all copies of a printed product.
  • The area in square kilometres of each individual product must be rounded up to a whole number. This is then multiplied by the number of copies produced to determine the total area to which the royalty must be applied.

AddressBase, AddressBase Plus and AddressBase Premium

  • A royalty is charged per 25 addresses (or part thereof) included in each copy of a printed product.
  • An annual Royal Mail® royalty must be returned for each terminal on which the partner accesses this licensed data.

Points of Interest

  • A premium royalty applies to the initial print unit, with a lower royalty applicable to each subsequent ‘run on copy’.

Code-Point with polygons

  • Royalties are based on the area of geography (in square kilometres) used to create the initial print unit.
  • A premium royalty applies to the first square kilometre used in the creation of each initial print unit.

OS MasterMap Imagery Layer

  • Royalties are based on the area of coverage used within each initial print unit.

Historical Mapping

  • The contract includes terms that allow the reproduction of paper mapping already in your possession that was published by us on or before 31 December 1995.
  • Royalties are based on the total number of National Grid Sheets (either in whole or in part) used in the printed product.
  • For small areas royalties are based on hectares.
