After listening to feedback from customers and our own investigations, we are going to change the source data for the Postcode_Locator field in February 2014. This will make it easier for customers to be able to find addresses that are not Postcode Address Finder (PAF®) matched by using the Postcode_Locator field.
At present, the Postcode_Locator field is derived spatially from Code-Point® with polygons. The aim of this was to ensure every record within AddressBase had a postcode, particularly non-PAF matched records, and that this field was consistently populated from a single source.
After consultation with a number of customers and partners, it was determined that the existing rules did not meet user requirements. Therefore, we have decided that the following ‘high level’ rules will be applied for population of the field:
- use Royal Mail® postcode where matched; or else
- use NLPG/OSG postcode where unmatched and verified against PAF; or else
- use spatially derived postcode from Code-Point with polygons.
This change to product creation will result in an improvement to approximately 2.1 million Postcode_Locator values.
More detailed rules and further information can be obtained from your account manager.
