Software for mapping

Some of the key steps in working with Ordnance Survey digital mapping products are planning how you will:

  • capture/store your data and store Ordnance Survey products (map datasets)
  • load and view the data on your local computer/within your organisation's IT environment
  • combine/process the data, so you can visualise your information in the right way, to address your needs/analyse your problem
If you are new to working with geographic data, you may want to view our getting started page before you jump in to obtaining a geographic information system.

Once you have a firm idea of your needs, the following information will help you consider where you could obtain the software you need to manage and share your map data.

See below for an overview of a selection of providers of GIS software and services, to help you with a range of different activities.
