Walkers, ramblers, mountain bikers and cyclists never need to fear being stranded in the wilderness again after Ordnance Survey released the new Trail 2 and Trail 2 Bike GPS units.
The powerful handheld units now carry greater satellite coverage, connecting to GPS, global satellite system GLONASS and Europe’s Galileo satellites.
The upgrade in tech means users gain faster lock on speeds and better accuracy whenever they search for locations.
Battery life is longer and now lasts for 20 hours.
An intuitive touch screen has been introduced – so users can pinch and zoom just like a mobile phone.
The 3.7” capacitive Gorilla Glass touchscreen also displays high resolution ultra-clear mapping even in bright sunlight.
Trail 2 and Trail 2 Bike are upgrades on the original Trail GPS unit released by Ordnance Survey in 2018.
Nick Giles, Managing Director of Ordnance Survey Leisure, said: “Following customer feedback we’ve introduced a bundle of improvements this year to Trail 2 and Trail 2 Bike which we believe make it the standout choice for walkers and riders when buying a new GPS unit.
“Not only is it slimmer, more powerful, and more user-friendly than before, it also comes with trusted OS 1:50k GB mapping pre-installed, with the option to download further OS 1:25k map tiles for even more detail.
"On top of that we’re offering a three-year subscription to OS Maps for route planning.
“We want to make the outdoors enjoyable, accessible and safe, and the Trail 2 models tick all three boxes.”
The inclusion of preloaded national 1:50k mapping for Trail 2 and Trail 2 Bike, together with the offer of three years’ access to OS Maps, is worth a combined value of £219.
Nick added: “This combined package, with the quality OS mapping it offers, represents fantastic value for money for a GPS device.”
Users of Trail 2 and Trail 2 Bike can automatically sync the device with OS Maps to upload routes they’ve created, making it easier to follow pre-recorded routes.
Durable and water resistant, the devices come with features that track performance and have the added inbuilt safety tracking option SeeMe.
This allows users and their specified contacts to know exactly where they are without needing to connect to a separate mobile phone.
Trail 2 and Trail 2 Bike are also compatible with ANT+ and Bluetooth heart rate and cadence and speed sensors.
International mapping is available via TwoNav.
Trail 2 is priced at £394.99 and Trail 2 Bike is priced at £399.99. Both can be purchased directly from the OS online store.
