Supporting emergency services delivering events

2 minute read
At OS we are proud to have a long history in supporting all the emergency services with our trusted mapping, data, and location expertise.

Accurate location is a vital tool in responding to emergency incidents, with the blue light services using a range of data covering roads, addresses, waterways, and terrain to keep their communities and visitors safe.

In addition to supporting both 999 control rooms and teams on the ground, OS data has played a critical role in the planning and delivery of several national events. In recent years OS has supported emergency services on the London 2012 Olympics, Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, and at last year's G7 Summit in Cornwall.

Over the last nine months, OS has been working closely with West Midlands Police sharing our location know-how in event planning. With a busy year ahead for the police force, they are keen to use the latest mapping technology, including detailed 3D models, to underpin their plans.

The BBC Midlands team recently visited West Midlands Police to understand more about their event planning, and spoke to OS's technical consultant, Rachel Cookson, who demonstrated the latest OS 3D mapping technology. Read more at Map technology for police Commonwealth Games operation - BBC News

The mapping technology being showcased for the BBC was used by Devon & Cornwall Police at last year’s G7 Summit in Cornwall.

Watch how Devon and Cornwall Police relied on OS 3D data to underpin critical decisions, plan and work through various scenarios, and ultimately deliver a safe and successful summit:
