Scale 1:50 000

The scale of a map is the ratio of the distance on the map to the corresponding distance on the ground. For example on 1:25 000 Scale (Explorer range) every 1 cm on the map is equal to 250 m on the ground.

Geological maps illustrate the nature, extent and relative age of rock types to be found in a district. Solid geology maps show the 'solid' (bedrock) geology only; they show the landscape as it would be if superficial deposits such as peat and glacial deposits were to be removed.
