The multi-award winning Satmap Active 12 is a large screen GPS for walking, cycling and other sports. Used widely by professionals and hikers, the Active 12 has twice the resolution of its predecessor and adds a barometric alitmeter, bluetooth connectivity and many more great features.
Review of the Satmap Active 12 by Graham Thompson of Trail magazine
This is the latest upgrade of the original Satmap Active 10 GPS receiver, which I've been a big fan of for many years. The Active 12 takes all the great features of the Active 10, such as the large screen, big buttons and easy-to-use-interface; then adds an improved high-resolution screen, barometric altimeter and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.
The Active 12, however, has orange buttons, which distinguishes it from the black-buttoned Active 10. There are also high resolution OS maps available for Great Britain and Germany. To get that mapping does require extra cost though; so a Satmap Active 12 with, for example, high resolution Great Britain 1:50k Ordnance Survey mapping will set you back £450.
When faced with a Scottish white-out or a yomp over moorland in the fog, the Active 12 is now my navigational tool of choice when I don't want to count paces and use a magnetic compass.
Verdict: My favourite GPS receiver just got a whole lot better.
