NUAR Notification of Works functionality now live

2 minute read
In August 2025, the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) team shared that, in response to both asset owner and wider industry feedback, they were going to start development of a Notification of Works capability.

A new blog announces the launch of new Notification of Works functionality within the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR), developed in response to feedback from asset owners and the wider industry. The update marks an important step in strengthening communication between those planning excavation works and the organisations responsible for underground infrastructure.

The first elements of the functionality now available includes a reporting tool that allow asset owners to see when and how their data is being accessed, alongside the initial phase of outbound notifications. These notifications enable asset owners to be alerted when works are proposed near their assets, allowing them to carry out risk assessments and provide guidance on appropriate safe‑working measures.

The blog also explains that this capability is being introduced in stages, starting in a test environment with API‑based access to support scalability and integration with existing systems, with further enhancements planned over time. By improving visibility and encouraging earlier engagement between parties, the new functionality is designed to complement established safe digging processes and support safer, more coordinated works on site.

Overall, the update highlights NUAR’s continued evolution, focused on collaboration, practical safety improvements and embedding the service effectively within the wider excavation and street works ecosystem.
