Our graduate scheme provides opportunities to develop your core technical expertise; to be our future technical experts, consultants and leaders.
You can make a difference.
What will I be doing on the graduate scheme?
OS will be offering two defined Graduate Programmes in our 2022 in take.
Geospatial Graduate Programme
As part of the Geospatial Graduate Programme, you will be working on projects and activities that build on your core technical expertise, gaining experience and exposure to key areas of the organisation such as Product Management & Product Development, Technical Relationship & Consultancy, Government Relations and Data Capture & Remote Sensing.
During the programme, you will be embedded in these teams working through a number of placements over the 2-year programme. Your programme may also include the opportunity to spend time with some of our geospatial partners within the UK, for example in wider Government bodies or with our commercial partners. As you develop and grow your technical expertise, we will work together to identify where your skills and aspirations lie.
This programme is about providing you on the job learning and development throughout the programme to enable you to grow your technical and professional skills. You work on real life projects, programmes and business challenges interacting with key stakeholders and real customers.
Data & Technology Graduate Programme
The Data & Technology Graduate Programme will provide you with the opportunities to develop to be our future technical experts, consultants and future leaders. You will gain maximum exposure to some really exciting parts of the business by working within teams across the Data, Innovation, Technology & Design areas of OS during the 2 year programme. You will be working on projects and activities that build on your core technical expertise, gaining experience and exposure to key areas of the organisation such as Data Science, Innovation & Research, Data Management, Data Architecture and Engineering Architecture.
The Data teams are critical to OS. In this rotational programme you will begin learning to provide a technical and business consultancy service by exploiting OS and third-party data to address specific customer problems and build future focused solutions. This is a technical role but one that helps OS sit at the forefront of innovation.
The Data Science and Innovation teams guide stakeholders in applying analysis, data-mining techniques and data modelling to optimise decisions across the business. You’ll be exposed to these progressive techniques and involved exciting projects.
Some of the projects you may be involved within both programmes include:
- Open data
- Smart cities
- Housing and transport
- Energy and infrastructure
- Autonomous vehicles

- Geospatial science (i.e. geomatics, geodetics)
- Data science and analytics
- Computer science (particularly machine learning and artificial intelligence)
- Data visualisation (including gamification)
Where will I be based?
At OS we believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go. We embrace a hybrid working model where we believe the choice is with you on when you work from our fantastic office in Southampton, Hampshire or from home. We want to continue to be an inclusive employer and recognise that one size doesn’t necessarily fit all.
The application process for our September 2022 in take is now closed.
We'll be advertising for the September 2023 in take in November 2022.
