Openreach has added location data, including ducts, conduits, poles, spans, cabinets and chambers for over 550,000 kilometres of its network, to the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) platform. The injection of new data means NUAR, the digital map of underground pipes and cables across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, now covers over 80% of known assets underneath the ground.

This news update marks a significant milestone for the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) with the addition of Openreach data, the UK’s largest broadband network provider. By contributing extensive location data from its national network, Openreach has substantially increased the breadth and usefulness of the underground asset information available through the service.

The inclusion of Openreach’s data means NUAR now holds a more complete view of buried infrastructure across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, strengthening its value for planners, contractors and site teams working around underground services. With greater coverage, users can better anticipate constraints, reduce the likelihood of asset strikes and plan works more confidently.
