Research at OS

Explore our research and opportunities to collaborate.

We are always looking for better ways to use our data. Our research team investigates datacapture all the way through to geospatial innovation and use cases in the digital world.

We have a very active research programme here at Ordnance Survey (OS). Our aim is to improve the way we capture and deliver data by using new, ground-breaking techniques.

We are dedicated to exploring the new uses to which our data will be put. Discover our research and find out how you can collaborate with us.

What we do

Our research topics

We’re researching a wide range of topics: from remote sensing and automatic change detection, to new smart systems, the Internet of Things and connected and autonomous vehicles. We also explore the interaction between people and the physical world around us.

Doctoral and post-doctoral research

Much of our research is accomplished through partnerships with universities and others in the form of doctoral and post-doctoral work. We have supported a number of PhDs, CASE studentships, EngDs and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP), and are partners in a number of Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs).
