We have long been a fan of cartographer Christina Shintani who has created stunning editorial maps for National Geographic and the Woodwell Climate Research Centre. One standout is her map on the Arctic Carbon Monitoring Network for the Woodwell Climate Research Centre, which is meticulously detailed and effectively visualises complex data about carbon emissions in the Arctic region. The use of colour and design elements not only makes the map visually appealing but also enhances its readability, allowing viewers to easily grasp the critical information presented. The map's ability to convey the urgency and scale of carbon monitoring in the Arctic is both impactful and informative, making it a deserving winner of the 2024 ICA-IMIA Recognition of Excellence in Cartography award.
