The positive effects of getting outdoors and reconnecting with nature

Dr Amir Khan, NHS doctor and OS Ambassador, explains the health benefits of getting outside in nature, and how mapping brings the outdoors closer to people, to improve both physical and mental health.

Surveys have shown that 70% of people living in the UK say being outdoors in nature has helped their physical health. More than half of the people surveyed said natural spaces also help with mental health, improving their stress and anxiety.

OS Maps is all about helping people to get outside. At Ordnance Survey, we’ve been mapping Great Britain for over 200 years, so anyone using the OS Maps app knows they have a reliable and valuable companion when they’re out and about.
