Information request

We received your request on 7 August 2024.

We have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000.

A copy of your request is set out in the extract below:

“I live locally and noticed that you appear to have recently removed 0.5 km of ORPA dots from your Leisure maps on the U75235 at around SO286 425.

If I look on 'Bing maps' the ORPA dots are still present, but if I look on your recent Leisure map versions they have gone.

This is a through highway on the Herefordshire List of Streets.

Please provide all the correspondence with the customer or organisation and any internal correspondence that resulted in this change being made.

In addition please provide a copy of your internal case file which details the action taken by OS in relation to the change made.”

Our response

Taking each request in turn, I confirm the following:

1. Please provide all the correspondence with the customer or organisation and any internal correspondence that resulted in this change being made.

I confirm that we do not hold any correspondence with a customer, organisation or internally that required OS to remove the ORPAs.

Under the duty to provide information and assistance in accordance with section 16 of FOIA, we can provide the following information which may assist you in this matter:

OS received a customer enquiry which related to the deletion of yellow road fill from Browns Lane. When we are driven to an area to investigate, we will also check the surrounding vicinity to establish whether any other updates to the mapping are required. As part of this check a decision was made to remove the ORPAs based on the evidence available (OS Imagery and OS MasterMap) from the 1:25 000 and 1:50 000 mapping. This was an internal cartographic decision (discussed and made verbally) and was not made as part of the customer enquiry in relation to the yellow road fill.

2. In addition please provide a copy of your internal case file which details the action taken by OS in relation to the change made.

I confirm that Ordnance Survey does not hold the information you have requested.
